Dear You

Life Letters

Dear You,

I know that you are reading this now and you’re scared. You maybe reading this from the comfort of your bed. Or maybe you’re in the middle of a class you hate. Maybe you’re sneaking on your phone during your lunch break. Hopefully, you’re not driving.

Before continuing any further, I want you to take 20 seconds and look at your environment. Put the phone down, really look at your immediate environment. Did you like what you saw?

You and I have something in common. We both have these flawed ideas that prevent us from living up to our potential. We believe that success and happiness is in the future. We believe that our best lives are in the future. Maybe we’re right. Hopefully, the people we are 20 years from now have accomplished every goal and fulfilled every dream.

However, we must ask ourselves, “What is preventing me from living up to my potential NOW?” Now we can sit and blame it on time. There simply isn’t enough hours in the day to do everything. We can sit and blame it on the lack of resources. If only we had enough money to pursue our passions. We can even blame our shitty families and toxic friends. It’s them that’s holding us back. It’s the world that’s holding us back. If only we could break through every obstacle and persevere. Right? Wrong.

If you haven’t figure it out by now, the single thing that holds us back is ourselves. Our limited perspective of the world and perception of ourselves is what prevents us from making the necessary decisions to enhance our lives. We are to blame. We have made too many excuses and not enough conscious choices. We have allowed ourselves to become victims of our experiences. We are not as progressed as we like to believe because we have given permission to all of these outside forces to control our lives. We are to blame.

Doesn’t that empower you? To realize that you have been in the driver’s seat this whole time except, you haven’t realized the key to start this journey has been in your pocket. You have fooled yourself. I have fooled myself. Aren’t we crazy?

The good thing my friend is that it doesn’t have to be this way forever. We have a choice. We have always had a choice. The choices we have made have led us to this breakthrough. Now I’m not going to sit up here and tell you step by step how to improve your circumstances. I cannot give you the map of your destiny. It is up to you to create your own path.

But I can plant the seed that sparks the fire inside of you to make a decision. You can either walk away right now and continue to blindly sleep through life. Or you can have the courage to remove your blindfold and awake. The choice is yours. Choose wisely.
